Software Composition (SC 2005)
9 April 2005, Edinburgh, Scotland

Workshop co-located with ETAPS 2005
2-10 April 2005, Edinburgh, Scotland

Proceedings:

LNCS

The goal of SC 2005 is to advance the research in component-based software development. Component-based software development is the next step after opject-oriented programming that promises to overcome the problems, such as reusability and complexity, that have not yet been solved adequately with object-oriented programming. Component-based software development addresses the complexity problem by producing software from smaller, typically black-box, components. These advantages have also been identified by the industry and hence a number of commercial component models have been developed. Although these component models are a first step towards the right direction, they only scratch the surface of software composition.

SC 2005 is the fourth workshop on software composition. The goal of this workshop series is to bring together the research and industrial communities in order to develop a better understanding of how software components may be used to build and maintain large software systems. Therefore papers relating theory and practice are particularly welcome.

News

The Proceedings of Software Composition 2005 are now available electronically as well as in printed format. Those who attended SC2005 will get a free copy by mail (we are currently in the process of obtaining the contact information from the ETAPS organizers). If your contact information has changed or if you have not received your copy, please contact the chairs by email. [05/09/23]

  • Post-Proceedings information: As promised, the post-proceedings will be published in Springer's Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. We would like to ask our authors to submit the camera-ready version of the paper till May 21, 2005 (improved on the basis of the discussions during the workshop or other results obtained in the meantime).
Camera-ready papers must adhere to the following guidelines:
  • As we have announced during the workshop, we highly recommend to prepare your paper using the LaTeX text editing system. If you do not use LaTeX already, we are confident that you will be able (or at least one of your colleagues will be able to help you) to install and use LaTeX.
  • The paper must be formatted according to the springer LNCS style.
  • Full papers must not exceed 16 pages in length. Short papers must not exceed 10 pages in length.
  • Since LNCS is also published in electronic form and we need all the source files of all parts of your paper. Please submit them as a zip or tar.gz file using the paperdyne submission system.
  • Fax the signed copyright form to +41-1-724-8953 attention Thomas Gschwind.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the SC2005 chairs. [05/02/15]

Added preliminary paper abstracts to the SC 2005 program. [05/02/12]

Oscar Nierstrasz agreed to give the keynote for SC 2005. [05/02/04]

A preliminary SC 2005 program is available. [05/01/31]

Due to the request of several authors, the paper submission deadline has been extended till December 17. Please submit a draft version of your abstract, however, till December 3 to help us distribute the papers to our reviewers. [04/11/24]

Springer will publish workshop post proceedings. Publishing the proceedings after the workshop gives participants the chance to improve their papers on the basis of the workshop discussions. [04/10/05]
