Contribution of Autocomp team to EU IST FP7 COIN Project at Distributed Systems Group, TU Vienna

Introduction

COIN is an FP7 IP project. In this project, we will participate in the research and development of enterprise collaboration tools. In particular, we will focus on the support for human interactions during the collaboration within networked enterprises.

Our COIN Human Interaction services will address one of the major challenges of Collaborative Enterprises, i.e. how employees and managers could seamlessly access the results of collaboration among enterprises and take the proper decisions according to them: this aspect is called user-centric collaboration and refers both to the ability of Business Applications and Business Intelligence tools to provide decision makers with the right knowledge. Another important research issue for it is how to make applications and systems suitable for being used by groups of users and communities belonging to networked organizations. This challenge is called co-operativity and its solution involves a serious and scientific analysis of collaboration contexts among enterprises, their modeling in machine-readable patterns and their integration in the most interactive cross-enterprise applications.

Our research focuses are:

  • First, a detailed scientific analysis of collaboration contexts has to be performed. The collaboration context will be analyzed by researching a virtual space covering different kinds of services and human involved in different collaborative processes. This will deal with the relationship between human, content-data-knowledge and services involved in the collaboration within network of enterprises.
  • Second, a set of common collaborative services that support studied SMEs collaboration contexts will be provided; these services also include third-party services. These services will be context-relevant so that they can be aggregated for particular collaborations.
  • Third, we focus on flexible and dynamic co-operativity supports by means of self-managing collaboration contexts based on activity orientation and collaborative goal of humans. Novel techniques and methods that support the establishment and adaptation of collaboration contexts in specific collaborations will be developed.
