Short CV
He is currently working as a post-doctoral researcher at Vienna University of Technology. He received his Ph.D. degree in September 2008 at Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China. His research interests include Pervasive and mobile computing, Self-adaptive systems Context-aware computing, Service-oriented architecture.
Research Interests
In the recent years, we have witnessed the emergence of systems that involve massive amount of sensory devices, various control functions that change the states of real-world objects, and rich applications serving the needs of different users are emerging, e.g. smart buildings, smart grids, and smart transportations. In general, they are large-scale pervasive systems. I am interested in two fundamental problems of such systems:
Scalable and extensible architecture for self-adaptive services-This research aims at seamlessly integrating sensory data acquisition, data analysis and adaptive business processes to respond to ever-changing real-world situations. The target system is a generic pervasive application platform that is able to support multiple industrial monitoring and control scenarios at the scale of a large city.
Real-time data processing and analysis-Large amount of sensory events need to be transferred, processed, and analyzed in (near) real-time. Two problems arise from this requirement:
- Programming model of scalable event processing. This work explores functional programming paradigm (using Scala) for distributed event processing. The goal is to support: a) programmable event processing for developing rich applications on sensory data, b) retrieval, aggregation and filtering of sensory events by one single processing model, c) composable and reusable event processing architecture.
- Real-time data quality evaluation and enforcement. Sensory data are known to be very unreliable. Data can be delayed, inaccurate, or simply missing because of the problems on the data sources and the runtime environments. This research aims at developing a comprehensive framework that encompasses quality metric definitions, evaluation methods on data sources and data instances, and overall workflow for efficiently evaluating large-amount of sensory data.
I am now working with Sanjin Sehic, Stefan Nastic, and Michael Vögler on these subjects. Interested in doing your Ph.D. Thesis, Master Thesis, Praktikum?
